In Memory of Imam Rasul Madyun
Imam Rasul Madyun standing center. We belong to Allah, and to Him is our return. *Inna lillah wa inna ilayhi raji'un*. Last week, our dear brother Imam Rasul Madyun of Washington D.C. (originally from Tennessee) experienced a stroke and was placed in intensive care as doctors tried to restore his health. At midday [Monday], November 20, 2006, Rasul returned to Allah.

I have had the pleasure of working with Rasul for the National Young Adult Association. He was an inspiring and sincere brother. He always carried himself in the best of Islamic adab. Praise be to Allah. His work is done in this world. Allah has called his servant home. May Allah forgive him of his sins and grant him Paradise.

I didn't really know Rasul personally. I saw him at an open mike event about 2 weeks ago. I was suprised to see him there because I knew he had been in the hospital the previous week. However, he seemed to be doing well that night as he approached the mike. He spoke briefly about his recent hospital stay and how he had time to write while he was in the hospital. He read a short passage in which he referred to his hospital stay as a form of pergatory. At the end of the evening, I passed him as he returned from walking a group of sisters to their cars. I paused, remembering how he had done the same for me and my friends after an iftar a few weeks before that. He stopped, smiled, and held the door open for me. Ironically, I hoped he wouldn't offer to walk me to the metro because I knew he had been sick. He turned and said "You know we need the FOI out here like in the old days to make sure you sisters are safe!" I smiled, said "As-Salaamu-Alaikum," and headed down the street towards the metro. That would be the last time I saw him. I pray that Allah forgives his sins and grants him paradise.

Rasul is a pillar of the community. As one the most prominent worshippers and activists in the community, he has tirelessly exerted himself for Allah to spreading the message of Islam, teaching his community members, lending a helping hand, and being a beloved brother, son and husband.
May Allah bless him and his efforts, expand his grave, turn any of his bad deeds into good ones, grant him the highest place in paradise, and bless his return to be one with which Rasul is well-pleased and one that is well-pleasing to Allah. May Allah bless and ease the path for his wife, Khafi, for his family, and for other community members.
It has been confirmed that the *janaza *will take place this Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at Masjid Muhammad in Washington DC.
